Turn it Off!

Lately I feel my hands must be glued to my cell. Twitter, Facebook, blog, Google+, etc.  Social media can be beneficial, but it can be addicting too.  There has to be a line drawn somewhere.  For me, it has been something that has taken me away from the very thing this poster shows: reading (and writing).  I am currently working on an adult novel.  Yup, you heard me right.  Do not fear! I have not forgotten my children's book writing. In fact, I have many stories finished on that front, just awaiting illustration.  I wanted to try something new though, and a great idea flew inside my head (that is a pun, but only I get it...hahahaha. It has to do with the novel I am trying to write).  My sister and I have been tossing ideas around concerning the novel, and it has great potential.  The only thing is...I have the case of the procrastination bug.  It infects me, and then I gravitate more towards the mindless stuff, hence...social media.
You gain inspiration off of other great works.  Also, do not spend so much time reading up on how to write better. That can be a distraction too.  Read enough to get you going, then write, write, write.  After you write, then cut, cut, cut.  Editing is so important in making sure your work is polished, and does not repeat itself or utilize useless jargon.  There!  I wrote this! I am accountable.  I now must put my owns words into practice.  Fair thee well! Let me just reach for my fly swatter...and SPLAT! There, no more procrastination bug. Sigh...I wish it was that simple.
